Lesson Plan 2 (SGYF) – December 14, 2025
Lessons From The Book Of Ecclesiastes For Young Families.
Ecclesiastes 3-4.
Welcome to the Small Group Lesson 2 Guide specially prepared for young families (SGYF).
Have you ever heard the words “time will tell,” “time reveals all things,” or even “Give it time?” Culturally, we view time as powerful in revealing healing and bringing change. In Chapter 3, wise King Solomon examines time and appears to be awed by the truth that time is power in itself. Why? Solomon discusses, among several other things, that time has control over “a time to die”, “a time to live”, and “a time for everything and every purpose under heaven.” He concludes with advice that should be valuable to anyone concerned with the passage of time.
22 So I perceived that nothing is better than that a man should rejoice in his own works, for that is his heritage. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?
Ecclesisates 3:22 NKJV
In Chapter 4, he expresses frustration that the poor and oppressed appear to lack advocates.
Listen to Solomon in his own words:
Then I returned and considered all the oppression that is done under the sun: And look! The tears of the oppressed, But they have no comforter— On the side of their oppressors there is power,
Ecclesiastes 4:1 NKJV
But they have no comforter.
Impressively, we will find that Solomon did not stop at observing the plight of the poor and oppressed. He became an active advocate for the downtrodden in his Kingdom. The scriptures we will read today prove this. As we strive to live as examples to ourselves as Christians and for our children, this is one lesson we can instill in them at an early age. Children are likely to imitate what they observe. Parents are their first and life mentors!
Scripture Study Guideline
Today’s Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. Please read and discuss your findings.
- What do you hear the Holy Spirit speaking to you from these verses?
- Solomon made an impact on the citizens of his kingdom. What verses specifically point to that? Read 1 Kings 4:22-24, 1 Kings 10:24-29
- Think for a moment: If the Lord were to bless you with abundance, what would you do with it?
- What are you doing now with the little extra that you may have?
Conclusion
I have heard people demonize wealth and even go so far as to believe that creating wealth is not something a believer should aspire to. Here, we see Solomon, whom God blessed with wealth, serving as a blessing to the entire nation of Israel. Every home under his reign had a fig tree and a vine. Additionally, silver was standard, which speaks to a prosperous citizenry. If Solomon observed the plight of the poor and did something about it, we can do the same in our own small corner by the grace of God.
