Lesson Plan – February 28, 2024

The Power of Daily Devotions.

Part 10 – More on The Holy Spirit II.

Welcome to Part 10 of our small group sessions. We began this season with the main topic “The Power of Daily Devotions.” We believe that if as followers of Jesus, we intentionally come to Christ daily for fellowship, His power will work in and through us. It is the Holy Spirit who makes the refreshing and the workings of Christ possible in us. Never forget! The Holy Spirit continues the work of Christ on Earth in and through His corporate Church and in you and me as individual members of His body.

The last time we met, our subject was “More on The Holy Spirit I.” We looked at the “Guidance of The Holy Spirit” and how the “Holy Spirit as Helper” worked in and through Paul the Apostle in various settings. Today we will discuss More on The Holy Spirit II with emphasis on how The Holy Spirit “takes what is Christ’s and gives it to” us. The Lord Jesus told the disciples before returning to Heaven that The Spirit would take what is Christ’s and declare it to us essentially summarizing the work of the Spirit in the believer. (John 16:14)

12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

John 16:12-15 NKJV

Scripture Memory (Re-read and Recognize)

Before we go further please take a few minutes to read again the Memory Verses from previous sessions. Which ones are you most familiar with? We will not add any new ones today:

Mark 1:35, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, 1 John 2:6, Acts 17:30, Luke 11:13, Galatians 5:22-23, Acts 10:38

Guided Discussions.

Let us be thankful for the ministry of the Holy Spirit considering that the world is in no short supply of false Christs, apostles, teachers, and prophets. See 2 Corinthians 11:14, Matthew 24:24. If we do not have the help of the Holy Spirit showing us what is of Christ, high-level deception will sweep many away. Take 60 seconds now and thank God for His Holy Spirit.

“He Will Take of Mine and Declare It to You.”

Please read the following scripture passages and pinpoint all the instances where you find The Holy Spirit taking of what is Christ’s and declaring it to the observer. Discuss and describe what you find and how that applies to you and the local church (us) today.

Read and discuss what you see in the Holy Scriptures.

Acts 16:16-19

  • The Holy Spirit will expose the work of evil spirits no matter how they hide.
  • What was the signal to Paul that this was an evil spirit at work through the slave girl? Hint: Vs. 18b
  • What other signals are we likely to receive to discern the enemy’s lies?
  • What else do you see in those verses? There are many things we can glean.

Acts 11:27-30

  • The Spirit can give us “the News before the News” See Vs 28
  • The Spirit showed a coming famine resulting in help being sent to the brethren in Judea
  • What else do you find inspiring in the scripture verses read?
  • What do you think can hinder His guidance or help in our lives?

Part 10 Summary and Conclusion

The Holy Spirit “will take of Mine (Christ’s) and declare it to” us. “Declare it” means make it known for it to become a part of us. This is the fulfillment of the work of the Spirit as we see in John 16:12-15. If we make time for Jesus watching daily at his feet we will continue to grow in His grace and knowledge with the help of the Spirit. Amen!
