Putting Faith to Work in Trying Times IV: God, Visions and You

Scripture Reading: Joel 2:28-29, Hebrews 10:7

Introduction

Divine Vision is a broad umbrella for the insight God gives us to help us follow His will. Those insights may come in many varied ways to different people. Ultimately it is God working to show us what we cannot see by ourselves.

The Prophet Joel about 900 years before Christ was born, prophesied that God would pour out His Spirit upon people resulting in dreams and visions. This was fulfilled on pentecost day as recorded in Acts Chapter 2. Since that is the case, there should be a preponderance of visions and dreams among Christians. However this is not the case.

Jesus Christ in Hebrews 10:7 speaks of having come to do God’s will. God gave us the scriptures to help provide guard rails for the practice of faith. He gives us a glimpse of what is on His mind so that we can pursue His purpose. The medium He chooses to reveal things to us is entirely up to Him. Our responsibility is to train ourselves to be prepared for supernatural interruptions.

Divine Vision in 4 Principal Ways

  • Voice in your spirit (inner man). Romans 8:16, Ephesians 3:16
  • Audible voice. 1 Samuel 3:1-11, 1 Samuel 9:15-16
  • Open Visions (Visions while wide awake) Acts 10:1-3
  • Dreams/Trances (Visions while asleep) Acts 10:9-13

God, Visions and You: Study & Discussion

With each section following please read the scriptures and use the questions to discuss your findings.

Isaiah the Prophet. Isaiah 6:1-8

  • Discuss Isaiah’s vision. How does that impact you? Do you think God still works like this today? If so why and if not why?
  • Why do you think many Christians don’t have these types of experiences today?

Jacob at Bethel. Genesis 28:10-19

  • What was God communicating to Jacob? Vs. 13-15
  • How did this experience impact Jacob? Vs. 16-22
  • What else stands out to you in those verses?

Cornelius. Acts 10:1-7

  • How did this experience impact Cornelius? Read Acts 10:44-48
  • Do you want to grow in this area? What would you do if you had such an experience?
  • Take a minute to pray that our own “Mr and Ms. Cornelius and household” in Winnipeg receive a visit from heaven and are sent to Joy Fountain Church.

Conclusion

Visions in whatever form God ordains are clearly a part of the Christian journey. We are citizens of Heaven and for that reason should be working with heaven just as ambassadors do with their home country. Are you in touch with heaven? Do you hear from heaven? Pray to receive all that God has for you.
