Lesson Plan 3 – November 26, 2025

Lessons From The Book Of Ecclesiastes.

Ecclesiastes 3.

Welcome to Small Group Lesson Plan #3, continuing with studies in the book of Ecclesiastes. I hope you’re finding it a blessing so far.

In Parts 1 and 2, Solomon is frustrated as he announces his entrepreneurial successes as meaningless. Interestingly, Chapter 3 deals with a subject that clearly wraps all of humanity, all of our accomplishments, our pride in power, wealth, and knowledge, in limitation. We are ALL held in limitation, whether we like it, believe it or not, by the Almighty TIME. I have wondered if the passing of time made Solomon, who was already wise, even wiser. The wisest and wealthiest king of all the kings of the earth was held in awe of and bound by time? Remarkable! He closes off by reminding his listeners that all humans, like animals, die. Yikes! Hear Solomon in his own words:

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end…For what happens to the sons of men also happens to animals; one thing befalls them: as one dies, so dies the other. Surely, they all have one breath; man has no advantage over animals, for all is vanity. All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 and 19-20 NKJV

Scripture Study Guideline

Today’s Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes Chapter 3:1-22. Please read and discuss your findings.

What stood out to you? What do you think the Holy Spirit is speaking to you? Did any verse or set of verses jump out to you? Please discuss your thoughts.

  • Read and discuss the following four verses about time. Your question should be, “What is each verse saying to me about time?” Psalm 90:12, Ephesians 5:15-17, James 4:13-14, Colossians 4:5.
  • Have you set specific goals for yourself? Example: A 1-year or 5-year goal? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Think about your walk with God, knowledge acquisition, and work.
  • Read Ecclesiastes 3 Vs 9-12. What do you think Solomon suggests should be our attitude to life in the light of the fact that God makes everything beautiful in His time?

Conclusion

It has been said time and again that time is a non-renewable resource. That being the case, I consider time the most valuable resource on earth. It is the most limited of resources and yet appears to be the most taken for granted. There is a time for everything, and the main lesson for me, as I reread these verses, amongst others, is that we have all been given time as a gift, and we must use it wisely, because once the time to accomplish something passes, it is difficult to reclaim it.

I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever.
Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it.
God does it, that men should fear before Him.

Ecclesiastes 3:14 NKJV
